how can i stop my steering wheel from vibrating when driving?

i have a vauxhall zafia and has started vibrating at the steering wheel when driving and is getting worse.
what can i do to fix it, and what is wrong with it

Jannette, check your tyres. Ensure that they are correctly inflated. Check wall for damage ( Lumps in the tyre wall). Check tread is complete and even across tyre. f this is ok it is more than likely that one or both of the wheels require balancing. This may be due to weights previously fitted, falling off. Especialy if wheels are made of Alloy. If balncing does not cure the problem, you may require attention to ball joints or steering rack, especially if you have hit a kerb recently. Best of luck.
