It could be back filling from the waste hose, make sure this drain hose higher than drain it is connected to at some point in it's run. If this is not the issue, chances are its the filling valve that need to be replaced. Turn off water supply tap overnight and if dishwasher dry, it'll be the filling valve at fault and not the waste backfilling.
