fIT BELT TO DYSON DC04?

How do i fit a drive belt to a Dyson dc04
Paul Taylor, January 2007
Loop the old belt over the motor shaft. Using the old belt looped through the new one, grip the open ends of the old belt and stretch the new belt far enough to feed the brush bar through. Not an easy job the first time, but as the belts break regularly on this model....It gets easier the more you do.... Alternatively, buy yourself a second hand DC01 that is a very good vacuum and designed to be maintained easily unlike the 04. I regularly take our vaccums apart as I have 4 daughters in the house with long hair...that gets gaught in the cleaners and causes me untold grief...

If you're lucky and have the same DC-04 as me, the job can be done in five minutes...

as above but use a piece of string through the belt this will hel you feed it through the guard and pull it to give you room to feed the brush bar through the loop of the belt. YOU NEED HELP WITH THIS to give you help feeding through. i used the crevis nozzle to create a lorge enough loop in the belt to feed the brush bar through. God luck!!

Fitting the primary belt (the one between the motor and the clutch) is difficult, but doesn't need a 'proffesional' [sic] engineer - just logic, patience, and a long-reach torx driver (size T15). One nice thing about the design of this machine is that all the screws are exactly the same size - well, except for the two screws that hold the clutch together that is - watch out for those puppies! One horrible thing is that the design prioritises looks and ease of mechanised assembly, but little consideration for the after-sales maintenance engineer - you might almost imagine that Dyson were encouraging customers to throw away their machines and buy a new one . . .
The operation requires an almost complete disassembly - the only thing you don't need to take out is the on-off switch. By patience, I mean you need to allow an entire day to complete the job. I could only get the primary belt by telling the supplier (in Glastonbury) that I was a qualified mechanical engineer. Good Luck!

this depends on whether your dco4 has a clutch or not. if not then remove bottom plate, remove roller, fit belt over silver motor pulley, now feed roller through belt and pull roller forward to locate in slots, turn roller a few times to centralise the belt, refit bottom plate. All the above to be done with the cleaner isolated from the mains. Should the dc04 have a clutch fitted this is more of a technical job and is best carried out by a proffesional.
