How to replace the clutch cable on Mountfield SP414 lawnmower? ?

The model Type is EP414TR s/n5994037 Art N297412043/BQ
QUESTIION: How does one get to check if the gearbox cable end is still attached to its fixing point in the gearbox?
George, March 2020
The clutch cable is new but its free play indicates it has come adrift at the gearbox end by whichever means it is attached there. The issue, therefore, is how to access the fixing point. However, the link you offered is very useful. I will give it a go and see how I get on. Pity any easier access point was not included in the design.Thank you.

Hi George, I'm not quite sure what your question is related to, by that I mean, have you actually installed a new cable and it's not working or are you at the stage where the cable has broken at the lever end and you've not started the cable replacement process yet?
If it's the latter, you could strip back some of the outer cable, expose an inch of the inner cable and using a pair of locking pliers, pull the inner cable (whilst holding the outer) to see if there is any resistance from the clutch lever.
I can't really see the benefit of this, as you will be looking at stripping the engine down to fit the new cable anyway.
If I've misunderstood what you are trying to do, let me know using the "add answer" to reply with further information and I'll see if I can help.

You may also find this link useful, it's not your exact model, but I think it's very similar to yours:
