Hi George, I'm not quite sure what your question is related to, by that I mean, have you actually installed a new cable and it's not working or are you at the stage where the cable has broken at the lever end and you've not started the cable replacement process yet?
If it's the latter, you could strip back some of the outer cable, expose an inch of the inner cable and using a pair of locking pliers, pull the inner cable (whilst holding the outer) to see if there is any resistance from the clutch lever.
I can't really see the benefit of this, as you will be looking at stripping the engine down to fit the new cable anyway.
