Broken component in Panasonic NB-DS65B?

Panasonic NV-DS65B. Purchased as Christmas present in 2003. Last used approx 3yrs ago, stored in its carry bag away from excess heat, cold or damp. All batteries replaced as indicated on screen.
My elderly video camera chewed up one of my tapes and now doesn't do anything with other tapes except making the noises of rewind, play or fast forward. Having gently managed to remove gnarled tape, there appears to be a broken brown circular 'sealed ribbon' lying at the bottom of the tape holder. Can this be repaired? Where could I take/send the camera to have damage looked at? Is it too old to be repaired? Hope somebody can help.
