How do I fix my dyson dco7 animal purchased in 2006?

my dyson dc07 animal makes a grinding sound when turning the switch between carpet position and flat floor. I sounds like some gear is ground up. I don't have the sale receipt or the box so no warrenty. how do I take it apart and were can I buy new parts?

Did you register it when you purchased it?
Can the shop get a duplicate reciept, bigger shops can.
Or ring Dyson explain the situation, they may age the machine by serial number ( from acetain date dyson offer 5years free), last resort dyson will come to you and replace any part of the machine for £55 ( excluded motor) and approx. £85 with motor.
