while driving the car at normal speed there is no problem.when i come to a stop at a island or junction the car cuts out.As the vehicle is an automatic it cuts out weather in drive or neutral. When i restart the car it carries on running normally untill the next stop.I have tried fuel treatment and new plugs fitted, but no better. Can you help?

I had the same problem on my 96 1.8 manual. It would cut out when revs dropped and would cut out and i would lose everything, especially power steering (great when pulling onto drive) I found that it was the Air mass flow meter. Cost me £85 quid for a brand new one. Took me about 10 mins to fit ( and im a girly) and touch wood hasnt done it since. This was bout 9 months ago. Hope this helps.

Had a similar probelm with a 1.8 '99 (probably a similar design) and it was improved by a new exhaust backbox of all things - which was causing a bad sensor reading controlling the throttle assembly (all electronic nowadays you see). Had someone come out with diagnostic kit afterwards and he said all the sensor readings were okay so if it happened again I'd need to get a new throttle unit.
