Hotpoint washes, drains, turns ok but doesn't do fast spin?

Washing machine does everyting including turning during wash, but doesn't do fast spin. I'm experienced with fixing our washing machines in the past, but would appreciate advice on this problem.
Since the brushes allow the motor to work during wash cycle, I suspect that the controller is at fault.
Any thougts?

similar fault but one brush appears badly worn. will replace brushes and drive belt but cau u let me know how to remove the control knob and wot the triac looks like. have no electronics knowledge but very confident i can remove a component and resolder. Thanks

That did the trick - Thanks. The brushes were fine, and a new Triac didn't cost too much - RS components was the only place that online that sold a compatible one, though.

I presume that you mean the board behind the main rotary switch. I'll check that out and replace it.

Many thanks,

hi its going to be the triac on the board(as long as the pump is working correctly)
