how can i de restrict my Daf lorry to go abit faster?

My Daf lorry is restricted to 56mph and quite honestly it is embarrasing and inconvienient on motorways and roads in general, would it be possible to de restrict my lorry so that it can go faster and so make my journeys a little easier and overtaking other even slower vehicles easier too?
Many Thanks.

Hi to you all. You are all squabbling over the speed, well if you all must know the legal speed for a lorry on the road today is 60mph, but as vosa requested that the speed is limited to 56mph, but as for being caught with a defective limiter is crap. The company I work for hires a lorry from a local company with a broken limiter, I have passed many over head mobile cameras doing 67mph and no ticket, been stopped by vosa twice for spot check after going over the limit, even my taco card was checked, nothing. But hay if you all look up the speed limits for UK roads you will find the truth.

my old man drove a daf 85 roll on/roll off 8x4 old thing s reg it was, but when he took the fuse out it did 75mph :D

Speed limiter what a waste of time! I have been driving an old de restricted daf for years no problem! Since I have brought a new model I find it more unsafe, Ian practically tailgating other vehicles waiting for the right moment to over take, then I end up causing traffic to bunch behind me when the slight incline changes, STUPID. What can't we have 7.5t restricted to 65mph? Someone before mentioned European ruling.....what?! All only European trucks fly by! Some do gooder with husband in haulage said it's for safety.... Why then do I get coaches full of 50 people with a gvw greater than mine able to go faster than me on the motorway? Ruling in this country is crazy and so are all of you who agree with it!

I work for a logistic company and some of our Dafs are 89km and some are 85km which in my opinion is fast enough, all you can do is get the job done at a safe speed and everyone gets home at the end of the week.

captain slow, April 2012
Re quote. 95km is the uk limit and not 96

Mark, February 2012
85km is an advisory speed imposed for European road users ie France, Belgium etc. if your vehicle does not go overseas and has a valid uk only distribution insurance certificate, then you are legally allowed by law to do 96km and is clearly stated on the uk speed limit signs as you enter the uk from another country. My friend just had his truck in for MOT and it failed because it was doing 94km on the roller test. He took it to court and won his case.

what a fool to try and go faster in a lorry!! people like you shouldn't be on the road. My husband and family have lorries and all have limiters fitted. They are there for safety reasons, for yourself and others. They see enough accidents and carnage on the roads as it is without someone wanting to go faster. So what if it is embarrassing, HARD LUCK!!! Thank goodness for VOSA.

cowgirl, February 2011
you can;t it;s controlled through the engine ecu...and it is illegal ...rsl operation is checked at test....

HI people,I have a 2002 daf lf 45 150,its restricted to 56 and its very slow!!!

how can i remove it??

my lorry has been converted into a motorhome, its a normal class 4 mot,and i dont have a tacho.

shaun daf lf, November 2010
if it is euro 3 or newer ,you need DAVIE to alter the RSL ...and no dealer would alter it ,as the engine ecu logs the dealer and person who altered it ..older models ,can be bypassed ,but it's there by law ,so not worth tampering with

norb, October 2010
so wat is the answer to by pass it any one no

daf man, October 2010
change the drive tyres from 295s to 315s that will give you about 3 mph

gonz, February 2010
On Daf CF trucks drive down hill, let the lorry over run the limiter by 3-4 mph then throttle off, and clutch pedal full down then full up, then throttle pedal full down, you will get 50% power for a couple of seconds,
when limiter cuts in again repat the procedure:

1. Over run limiter down hill.
2. Throttle full off.
3. Clutch pedal full down then full up.
4. Throttle pedal full down.
5. 50% power for a few seconds.
6. Repeat 1.2.3.4. over.

Once you get a good rhythmn going you can gain a lot of speed on a slight decline.

Fellow Daf driver, February 2009
naughty naughty. What model/year? It can be done but your vehicle will fail its annual test if the rsl is not working correctly.

BEFORE YOU CONSIDER TAMPERING WITH THE RSL READ THE FOLLOWING (EXTRACT FROM THE VOSA WEBSITE)

8. Speed limiters are designed and fitted to ensure that road safety for
drivers themselves and other road users is preserved. They serve to limit the
speed at which vehicles above a certain weight can travel on our roads.
Braking and stopping distances are greatly affected by speed in any motor
vehicle and this is never more evident than in a Large Goods Vehicle or
Passenger Carrying Vehicle. Furthermore, they ensure that fair competition
between operators is upheld. Over recent years enforcement agencies have
detected widespread abuse of speed limiters, and Commissioners in setting
these guidelines are keen to reflect the seriousness of speed limiter breaches
in the way they deal with transgressions by the drivers. Disabling a speed
limiter is quite clearly an expression of intent to exceed the legally permitted
speed.
• a) Speeding in a vehicle with speed limiter not working with no
evidence of tampering or interference by the driver but with clear
written evidence of the driver bringing the matter to his
employer’s attention either via the tachograph or the driver
defect reporting system. Formal warning.
• b) Speeding in a vehicle with speed limiter not working with no
evidence of tampering by the driver but with no evidence of the
driver bringing the matter to his employer’s attention either
through the defect book or by writing on the reverse of the
tachograph chart. 1 month suspension period.
• c) Speeding in a vehicle with disabled speed limiter and
evidence of tampering or interference by the driver.
Suspension/revocation and disqualification from
between 2 to 4 months.
• d) Use of any device to disable the speed limiter. Revocation
and disqualification for between 6 to 12 months.
