Smeg double oven heats fine but the cooling fan does not turn off after?

My Smeg cooker worked fine for 5 years. Then I noticed tha the fan which stays on after you turn off the oven did not ever turn off, unless you switched the oven off at the fuse box. I think this is a fan that cools the oven down, but some bit of it is now broken because it doesn't realise that the oven has cooled down. It smells funny when you first turn it on, so I don't know if that is an electrical fault smell. Model possibly 70cm A420-5, but could be an earlier model (bought in April 2000). Is double oven with 4 rings on top, 70cm wide. I can't find the model number which I've been told is on the door!

Hi Mark, this might come too late for you, but perhaps may help others with the same issue.

I had the same problem and initially I replaced the wrong thermostat....I replaced the thermal cut out (TCO) which looks very similar.

The fan cooling thermostat is slightly different: for my model (S20 MX1) it was this part from shop.ukwhitegoods.co.uk -

(NOT the Safety Cut Out thermostat )

Hope that helps others who might have a similar issue

So after all these years there is still no answer! My Smeg UK80 MFX has the same problem (to be fair it is 20+ years old) and I was hoping to identify which component needs replacement. The tangential stat and selector switch are both fine...

Hi

I know this is an old post, but can anyone confirm if replacing the Tangential Cooling Fan Control Thermostat fixed this issue for them (particularly Alice and/or Neill)?

I had exactly the same problem, but after a while it also started blowing the master fuse. I recently bought a replacement 2nd hand A42. Initially it was fine, but after a few weeks now has the same problem with the cooling fan.

I have found that, after turning the oven off and back on at the wall, the fan stays off until you set the clock. It will then come on after a minute and not stop. However if you don't set the clock you can't use the main oven.

I had this same problem with a Smeg range cooker. The cooling fan has a separate thermostat that switches it on and off. Search for "Smeg Tangential Cooling Fan Control Thermostat" and you should find one. I got mine from www.whitegoods.co.uk. They look very similar to the safety thermostat cut out switches so make sure you don't get one of them.

Hi Alice,

I was just wondering if you found out what the fault was on your semg oven, we have an A42 which has exactly the same problem.

If you do know anything, I'd very much appreciate a post!!

Neill

P.S. if anyone else knows what fault this is, please post
