How do I replace the belt without it smoking after I put it back together?

There are two releases for the top cover. Remove top cover and you will have access to the beater bar and belt. Remove the beater bar cover. It has 2 releases toward the back of the vacuum. remove beater bar and notice how the old belt goes onto the motor shaft. Replace belt and reassemble.
