My washing machine won't spin to wash or to drain what can I do?

My whirlpool gold ultimate care washing machine won't spin to wash or to drain the water from the clothes. It just fills with water and makes a loud noise.. What can I do to fix it?

check to see if it has a belt and if the belt is broken.
