Kenmore PowerMate Canister Model 116, powermate not working?

I have taken vacuum apart and cleaned it. Cleaned powermate completely. Belt is good. Switch has three settings: Off/Floor/Carpet. When I select Floor I get nothing, no suction and no power to the powermate. When I select Carpet I get suction but powermate does not work. I have also tried this with the powermate JR attachment with the same results. I put a volt meter on where switch connects to powermate attachment and I am getting Off-0v, Floor-0V, Carpet-120v which seems correct. I should be getting suction when switch is on Floor but I do not. I should be getting suction and powermate brush spinnig when switch is on Carpet but I only get suction. Anyone have any ideas on what is wrong?

Thanks,
Mark

RedSoxGirl;

There is a small cover over the light; pop that off and you will find two screws.

I can't pry the the cover off, it seems like something is holding it, and I am afraid too much pressure and I will break it.

I know the belt is bad. any suggestions

I've got the same problem as well! I had to have the wiring fixed once for the same issue. I read somewhere else that someone had the same problem, and they just had to replace a fuse. I've got no idea where that would be!

Please let me know if you ever found a fix!

I have the same problem and was wondering if you ever found out what was wrong with your vacuum?
Thanks
