Whirlpool Washing Machine Timer AWM 1870?

Hi

After some advise.

I have a whirlpool washing machine thats say AWM 1870 on the front.

First of all why i am finding it hard to get info relating to this model. Was it a model given to identify a rental machine or something.

My problem with it, is that the timer sticks in exactly the same place on the main wash cycle and occassionally on rinse. I presume that it either the stepper motor has got enough torque to keep it going or that inside the time there is something not right.

I am pretty handy with electrical mechnical stuff...

So

Can I use something to clean the timer.. (ie a spray lube)
or
Can I get away replacing the stepper motor
or
Where can I get a recon / timer from without costing the earth or a part reference as i found that other brands do use the same timer occasionally and finally i cant find an exact timer for awm1870 code but i can find timer with other references so how do i make sure it will work..

Thanks
