i have a funny feeling about my gas cooker smell?

i have a funny feeling about my gas cooker? in the last 3-4 days it has smelt different, more kinda gasy and the flames are really quite blue. Im now not sure if they were always that blue or not? i am using alot of white gloss paint in the hall, stairs and landing at the moment. could the paint fumes be having a reaction when i light my gas cooker hob and making the gas smell funny and burn more blue? or do you think i have a gas problem with my cooker. i have only really noticed this problem since i have been glossing??

Hi You posted this a while ago, but I came across it tonight when searching the internet as I have the same problem - wierd smell to the gas and glossing being done in the next room. Just to let you know - I rang my father who says the smell is the same as paraffin. And that it always occurs if you are painting and have the gas on. Must be a reaction to the paint chemicals. Also my gas was burning very blue.

Maureen,
Before you do anything, get Transco out to check for a gas leak. At least you will eliminate that possibility & it won't cost you anything.

Do you have a Carbon Monoxide monitor? I got myself one of these (from B&Q) recently and was shocked to see the level of CO produced when the grill was on - not quite dangerous but fairly close. I also had a "gas" type smell when the grill is on. Worth getting one to see if your problem is serious or just odd.
