At James Purcell's repair shop we are not happy telling you that your Globe has to come apart for the repair of a broken figure inside the Globe or one that has just come free of the bung ( stopper ) . But their is no other way to rejoin it to the bung with glue . To do this repair almost all of the parts have to come off and the glue has to be cleaned so that it can be put back together again . Some people take the screws on the bottom out in the thought that they secqure the bottom cover
but they only hold the music box in side to the base . " DO NOT
REMOVE THESE SCREWS " . Snow Globes were not ment to come apart for repairs but when broken manufactures expect you to throw them away . They did not plan on people attaching memories to them and are heart broken at the loss of them . We have found ways to get around the ways that
these things are made . Gaining access to the workings by tapping the cover ( which is contiac cemented on ) and when you hear a hollow sound that is the place to start prying up with a sharp jack knife , slowly at first , and as it lets you slide
the knife along the outside of the circle . " Keep in mind that some of these have music boxes attached which do not like the
workings jacknifed ! " once the cover is removed you just have the inside . Now it is no simple mater to go further as you will see but you can gain entry to do the repair now . Now for those that have no cover but are solid you have to heat to
130 degrees to seporate . For these ones the Globe and the
base can now be pulled apart using gloves being carefull not to burn yourself . " pull gently and clean off excess glue so putting
back together is easier . If all this is too much for you to do ?
Send it to Jim and we will make sure it is like new again .
