i have a candy civ60 thats not heating up?

i have a candy civ60 thats not heating up what should be the first things i check before shelling out for a heating element or if someones got a spare free/on the cheap.

it has previously been working but i noticed one of the coils inside the heater element has broke.could this be the problem.is there some sort of reset or thermostat on theses machines.thanks pete

Use a test meter to see if you have the correct voltage at the heater terminals
