Second hand engine oil smell?

I have a second hand engine put into my car a vectra 1997.

I have checked the oil and it seems to smell strange like a petrol smell

Could it be this or something else

If it has a mechanical fuel pump the diafram in pump might have failed and leaking internal in the engine
