how can i fix electric window on rover 414?

the driver side window will go down a little bit and i get a grinding noise then it stops and wont go down how can i fix this

The regulator or the gear on the drive motor are stripped. Yo8u need to remove the dor card to see which and then get a new regulator/motor. A Haynes manual will show you do this without wrecking the door or window glass.
