How can i fix my compaq presario 900?

Hi,

I have a problem with with my laptop. When i turn it on all that comes up is the Compaq logo at the start, it will start up or go into windows. I cant hear my hard drive kicking in but the fan still runs. Any ideas what may be wrong with it??

remove the battery and boot up on AC

It worked for me. I haven't tried putting the battery back in, so don't know what will happen; but it works fine on AC.
