peugeot 807 2.2hdi will not start without getting jump started?

i have a 53 plate peugeot 807 2.2 hdi done around 88000 miles has been fully serviced regularly and for the past 30000 miles it hasnt started straight away like it did when i bought it it has been regularly serviced at my local peugeot dealership they were not very helpful when i first notified them of the problem saying it could be a number of things now the colder mornings are here it just turns over and not until i get a jump start from a friend will it start had new battery has been in another peugeot dealership after £45 they diagnosed the fault as a fuel pump failure in the fuel tank after a new £275 pump fitted it is worse than before now they are quoting different problems that it could be costing several thousand pounds just to try these options without a definite diagnosis. There is a distinct change in the speed of the starter motor when friends jump leads are applied to my battery. Once the car is started and warmed up it runs fine. But if i turn the engine off no matter how long it has been running it still turns over a fair bit before it starts. I know of 4 other people that have hdi engines and they have said that they too have had starting problems and their issues have not been resolved is there a fault with hdi engines?? can anyone help..

Bill, Im having the exact same problem as yours.
ive done as you said and have been pouring hot water on it and bingo it works. Did you get yours sorted as i dont really want the water to be a long term solution.

I have the same problem when the car is cold , it just turns over but wont start . One morning i could smell diesel so i got some hot water and tipped it down the front of the engine on the f/s where the fuel pump is and then tried to start the engine. 4 cranks and the engine fired up. i phoned my garage who have been trying to rectify this fault for 6 months and he is baffled by the hot water and also said its not such a good idea tipping water on the engine. The car is going back to him in the next 2 weeks but i tell you now for 3 weeks every bitterly cold morning hot water has started it every time. its not a good idea but it is working until my garage finds out. I spent a lot of money on a very good battery before and i bought a new starter motor after reading info on the net about 807 cold start problems i also had new glowplugs when the cambelt was done about 5 months ago .

Check the distance between wires on starter motor, we experienced that problem and the master fuse kept blowing the wires had turned due to vibrations when driving and the wired were now touching possitive and negatives on the starter motor

i would say it is down to the starter motor, if battery has been checked, or the leads from the battery to starter, earth leads too need checking

i have a cytroen synergie 2l hdi the engine cut out after awhile and hard starting it ran agin , but got worsre and will hardly start if it doe,s it runs for about 10 seconds very lumpy, black smoke ,likes its burning to much diesel. when u turn on ignition there is gurgling in the fuel tank...any ideas...been told could be injector, or timing slipped.

I had the same fault with starting and on my 2.2 hdi on checking the cranking amps it showed a large draw. On removal of the starter I found there had been a slight oil leak into the starter which had soaked the brushes within. I then cleaned all the internal parts and refitted it this cured the fault. Try checking the starter motor and hopefully this will help. Mark

Check the connections to your fuel cut off solenoid. Similar if you have a diesel that wont stop even if you take the key out, disconnect the battery etc its normally a problem with the solenoid not cutting off the fuel due to worn out seals etc.

Hi
I had the same problem difficult or won't start at all on my 2.0 L HDi Peugeot 807. Problem was a sticking Diesel fuel solenoid, this is mounted on the top of the Bosch High pressure pump. It is held on with 3 small torx screws, in order to remove it I had to remove the fuel filter, mountain bracket and fuel Pipes. There is a small "o" ring inside which you need to ensure is refitted. Once cleaned and refitted the car started first time. But has gradually gone back to poor starting and not starting at all after a few weeks, re cleaned it and all was ok again,so I am trying to source a new solenoid. You could have a similar problem

try cleaning up the earths connections m8 & your battery connections.it sounds like your not getting enough power from the battery due to a bad connection somewhere that would explain why when u connect the jump leads from another car it starts.u will be getting a good connection through the jump leads from their car.
