Engine management light keeps coming on?

When I start my car from cold (Vauxhall Omega 1996 2.0 16v) the engine management light comes on. This results in a loss of power and a sort of stutter when accelerating. Once tha car has had a good run, turning the enging off and on again seems to cure the problem. Some sort of sensor fault? I don't know. Thanks
