i have just brought a vectra 1.8 on a 53 plate?

they told me it was a timing chain not a belt is this right

only the 2.0dti and 2.2dti have the timing chain all petrol ones have the timing belt-best change it to be on the safe side..better to pay £80-£120 on a belt change than full top end rebuild if it snaps...p.s dont by a cheap belt either and if taking it to a small garage and not the dealerrequest - that you yourself supply the belt and they do the labour and buy a belt from a vauxhall dealer(genuine part)..

no its a belt.it needs replacing every 60,000 miles or 6 years whichever occurs first.
