MY HOOVER SPECIAL EDITION DOES NOT MOVE ON THRU THE PROGRAMS?

MY HOOVER SPECIAL EDITION 1200 DOES NOT MOVE ON THRU THE PROGRAMS. THE MACHINE SEEMS TO DO EACH STEP THEN STOPS. IF I MOVE THE DIAL ON MANUALLY IT SEEMS TO DO THE WASHING OK. CAN YOU ADVISE?
