Will not renew Ip address?

I did try to reinstall windows and that did not solve the problem. So now i'm stuck. The ISP says my modem is working properly. I don't understand. When I can't connect to the internet, windows tries to repair the problem by renewing the IP address and the computer fails in doing that every time. NOW what?

Your information is somewhat vague, but I'll try and answer in a general way. There are two ways to renew an IP address...either automatically with Windows or you can do it through the CMD prompt. Click Start and Run, type in cmd. That brings you to an old DOS window. Type in ipconfig and hit enter...write all that info down. Then type in ipconfig/ release, which is the manual way of renewing your IP. Then some info should come up..if you get an error there, then you have a connection problem with your hardware...usually between whatever you use to connect to your modem with and the actual modem. If you are on a router, then you can manually config that, but I don't know the brand, so I can't help there.

I think that you need to suuply a bit more information. Like dialup or broadband? What exactly happens when you try to connect - blow by blow.
