My kenmore vacuum model 116 39712991 does not work?

My kenmore model 116 39712991 does not work- the light does not go on and no motor activity either. Are there fuses in the vacuum cleaner?

Mine was showing no power indications at all, no light, no motor, etc. Checked the fuse by cutting back the heat shrink tube and it was good so I used my multi-tester and traced the power up to the handle where the switch is. Removed the screws, 3 outside and one inside, split the handle and there are 3 wires coming from the hose to the
wand. One wire there had slipped from it's clip and was disconnected. I pushed it back in now it works just fine.

how do you thread the belt?

I have a Kenmore 116.22613200 that stopped working. I thought it was the switch or cord also. Turns out there is a fuse between the cord reel and the first terminal (on blue wire with red stripe on mine). It's a bus type fuse (small glass tube with metal end caps) rated for 15 amps at 125 volts. On mine, it had black heat-shrink tubing around it. It was definitiely blown. Unfortunatley it is not listed in the parts list. It may be part of what they call the lead wire assembly, but the phone operator at Sears parts service (1-800-366-7278) couldn't really confirm one way or another. May have to buy one myself if I can find it and solder it on to the existing wires. Add a few layers of electrical tape to protect it and I should be all set.

I have the model 116 31723100 - it has to be somewhat similar... Same problem. I just took the handle off and played with the switch a few times. I put it back on and it works... My problem must have had something to do with the switch. To be honest, I have no clue what would have been wrong with the switch...

Most likely it is the cord that is causing your problem. The factory cords has weak prongs on the socket end. If it were a fuse, you would see the light come on, but the motor would not run. Our email is arctic@worldlynx.net
