Replacing a damaged USB port?

One of the two USB ports on the back of my computer tower is broken, does anyone know how easy (or difficult) they are to replace? what do I need to buy? how easy to fit? any special tools? The computer is a home-made special put together by an ex-colleague's ex-boyfriend - they've split up and both moved away so I can't ask him! Running XP if that makes any difference.

The easiest way is to buy a USB Hub. Plug it into the working port and you will have four USB ports. Powered ones are better.
