How can I fix the electric start?

I own a Gilera DNA 50cc. Just recently got a new speedo for it. Its all fitted and correct and it works alright. The kick start is broke, but I've ordered a new part for it, so that should be easy enough to fix. However the electric start hasn't worked for ages. I've looked at the speedo to see if its all connected properly and it is, charged the battery and cleaned the spark plug. Can't think of what else it could be. Any ideas?

Yeah, all the brake lights are working, and I do hold the brake in when pressing the button but it just won't start. Me and my boyfriend have looked at various things on it, and reckon its the starter motor as well to be honest. I guess I'll just have to wait for that part to arrive for my kick start, and get it to a proper mechanic or something. But thanks for the help anyway.

katie the electrit start will only work when a brake is pulled ,so if the brake light does not light up when you pull each brake independently then that may be the problem ,it could also be the starter relay which is behind one ot the rear panels or the strater motor itself!and could also be the starter button.i could tell in a minute what the problem is but its very hard to explain how to do the tests to find out the problem see what the brake swithes do and get back to me ok :)
