On my 07 reg problem was spiget on end of cable next to barrel.carefully pull out grill, release key barrel by expanding plastic tabs on back of grill.look closely at barrel and you will see three small roll pins.using a small drift punch tap bottom one all the out.tap top two gently into barrel and withdraw.now using a long nose pliers pull loose end off cable, pull outer section off and then while keeping inner pushed back turn right with small vicegrips.Hope this helps.

Just like to say thanks to fishy 2010.. Opened bonnet on first attempt with screwdriver. Exact same problem and have wrapped some plastic coated wire around where the bar narrows.
Thanks for the tip

From underneath, remove the stone shield, and you will be able to access the two 10mm bolts on either side of the bonnet catch. Given the reduced space, you will probably find it easier with a ratchet spanner, as a ratchet socket will be too large when the bolt turns out. Then, prise the bonnet catch away from its mount by levering under the plate where the bolts were. Ideally this will disengage the snap-together connection between the bonnet catch and the cable from the key. Then, from the top, pull up the bonnet - it may require a bit of effort if the snap-together connection is still in place, and might also break some of the plastic components, so better to ensure that the bonnet catch is prised away from underneath before forcing the bonnet.

I've got a similar problem. The bit that the key goes into seems to move about a little too much, and the key doesnt turn.....time to get the WD40 out unless there are another ideas. Dont like the big bar and rag it approach though, might bend something!

half a can of wd.40 did it for me !
