Protherm 80e : F1 fault?

The Corgi recommended plumber, who admitted he had never worked on this model, reported that he thought the Gas Valve was at fault. The F1 diagnosis does not mention this possibility. He proposes to order a replacement. Am I being taken for a ride?

fi is no flame detected . try the air flow sensor above the top of the fan before the gas valve. common on this boiler
