1996 Ford Escort TD Estate (Engine Smoking)?

Hi. I have a Escort fitted with the endura-DE diesel engine. It starts from cold but on tickover it only runs on 3 cylinders and smokes (white/unburnt diesel) but as soon as you rev the engine above 2000rpm everything is normal again and its fine. I have been told that 1 of the injectors maybe faulty. Can anyone clarify this as no1 can give me a definate answer. Thanx.

Mark; When you run it up to 2000 rpm, the exhaust could get hot enough to burn up the fuel from the bad cyl, making you think it is normal. You might want to have a compression test done. This would tell which cyl, and maybe why. Perhaps there is not a faulty injector. Hmmmmmmm----

Mark; Dosn't sound good to me. A faulty,or dirty injector often causes overfueling. However it is the compression of the Diesel engine that fires the fuel, and it usually burns very black.Im thinking you have bad compression in one cyl, probably burnt exhaust valve allowing unburnt fuel into exhaust system,hmm--- not good.
