Slow computer and J2SE runtime environment 5.0 please help?

In my add and remove program I have J2 SE Runtime Environment 5.0 updates No's 10, 4, 6 and 9 should I remove the earlier ones and keep update 10 only, as I am looking for a way to free up the memory on computer as going too slow.
I have checked the properties on
3 1/2 floppy - CD rewrite and DVD drive (but no Dvd ) and all are full (all blue)
On Local disc used space is 9.80gb free space 28.3 gb
My computer is 1.10 GHz and 120 mb of Ram
I know very little about computers so any help would be much appreciated as long as you give me step by step instructions.
Many thanks

These people have a configurator www.crucial.com/uk/ and a scanner which might be easier.

No your computer isn't too old but it needs more memory - as you have found out. As I haven't heard of your PC (and you don't say if its a desktop, tower, or laptop) its difficult to say what kind of RAM modules you need. However here are some tips. There are normally two slots for RAM on a PC your may have one in use or both - you need to look. (Do a search on the web for pictures of what they look like.) Some PCs require you to fit RAM in pairs others don't. Many of web sites that sell RM have 'configurators' which will help you choose the right RAM modules and whether you need a pair.

My advice is, if your PC can take it, buy one 512MByte SD RAM module and the increase in your PC's speed will amaze you.

Thank you for answering
How will I know if any Java apps need them ?
My computer is a Vulcan 1024 Amd Duron processor 1 GHz 128Mb SD-RAM. bought about 4 years ago from John Lewis using Windows XP
I think I have XP SP2 so looks like I do need more memory if so where can I get it and is it easy install ? or is my computer too old.

Many thanks

Not sure how much memory you may or may not save but before removing runtimes, you need to know whether any Java apps need them.

You don't say what kind of computer you have nor what your operating system is. Assuming an Intel based machine with XP you need to add memory rather than try to restrict your environment. XP SP2 needs 512Mbytes.
