How do I stop my Mountfield driving??

Hi, I've got a Mountfield Emperor with a B&S 111787, 0162-01, 1985 model. It is stuck in 'driving' mode with the drive roller continually turning, ie. the clutch does not disengage. The cable is fine and moves the clutch lever going into the engine body fine - obviously, something has gone awry inside... Any hints on how to fix it?? Can't see how to get to the innards without completely splitting the engine.

All help appreciated

You need to turn the mower upside down.(no need to drain anything, although some spillage may occur)There is NO clutch, it is belt which tensions when you pull the lever. in order to do this, there is an arm with a jockey wheel.THIS MUST GO UP/DOWN. It is probably rusty, and if you work in some WD40 type lubricant the problem will be solved.
Obviously the arm is in the engage position and is not dropping when the lever is released

Disconnect the spark plug first to avoid any possibility of the engine starting. It is best tipped up so that the sparkplug is topmost to avoid draining the engine oil into the top part of the engine.

Probably the pulley at the end of the drive cable (attached to the pulley arm) is not dropping down after releasing the handle lever(at top).
Turn the mower on its side and remove cover (3bolts). Be very careful with these as they may be corroded. Using the correct sized socket.(10mm??)and spraying with lubricating oil.CLEAN out debris-lawn cuttings-lift/lower pulley arm, when moving up/down lubricate.

look under the machine and you will see that the pully is stuck up releese it and it will stop driving
