ROVER 75 CDT PROBLEM ?

WHEN I SWITCH OFF MY 75 DIESEL IT SOUNDS LIKE A FAN OR MOTOR IS GOING, IT IS NOT THE COOLING FAN AS IT HAPPENS WHEN THE ENGINE IS STILL COLD AND IT HAS HAD A GAS LIKE SMOG COMMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE CAR ONCE ONLY,I DISCONNECT THE BATTERY AND IT STOPPED. the same fan works for the air con aswell, it will be that thats running the fan. switch of heater controls and see if it stops it happening
