If the battery is full and powering on / off the camera does not fix the problem, the fault will be the ribbon contacting the len motor to the pcb. Due to the way the ribbon is bend in the camera, it is only before some time that the ribbon will break.

ive got the same problem while using my cam as a webcam my camera shut down and my lens was left sticking out nothing i can do will get the camera back on the battery has been charged fully and still a bag of poo im well p**ed off as i saved a long while for this cam and the warrenty is out of date. i have a cradle and power lead still dont work other then taking it apart myself im willing to chuck it away any help apprieciated

This happened to me and it was because my battery had only just enough power to open up the lens. I tried another battery which closed the camera up and then I re-charged the old one.

I had this problem with my Fuji F601. I was lucky that it happened while still under warranty. Fuji replaced it.
(Now the flash has stopped working and it is out side of the Warranty Period. I'm not at all pleased with my purchase and won't be buying another Fuji.)
