Scantronic 9800?

My alram came went off and came up bf on the control panel. a couple of days later I turned the house power off to unscrew a power socket for wallpapering around it and then noticed the display is now blank on the control panel. Also when I turn off the power the alarm sounds externally. I looked up bf and and it means control panel battery. Does anyone know what kind of battery it tales and whats involved in changing it? Is it soldering on or a removeable one?
THANKS IN ADVANCE

bf stands for battery fault,i would put a bet on that you do not have a maitenance contract,or have never had it serviced, the stand by battery has a life expect,of 5 years, but like car batterys they can develope a dead cell, you only find out about it when your mains fail and you dont have enough power in battery to power system, your alarm company uses a tester that puts a dummy load on the battery to test the tempreture, voltage, and ampage,(well at least we do)this makes sure if you get a mains failure your battery will power the system for at least eight hours,(this is a requirement by law)so it is very important to ask your alarm company to maintain your system, money well spent, and your insurance company expects you to have a maint contract,

battery should be a seven amp ,cost if you buy it yourself and fit it is approx £12 from alarm suppliers ,
to work out what size battery your system requires, add the consumption of your system in mill amps, what does the panel draw in alarm and the quietesence state,(unset)add pirs, bell box, etc, then multiply by eight, you will then get the total mill for the system,7 amps is 7.ooo mill amps .if you open the control panel ,you will need the engineering code to reset the panel, your alarm company will have changed the factory code(07890)to their own,so you will need to contact them,or you can reset the panel to factory settings, but then you will have to prog the panel to the specs your alarm company set,we have used this panel for over twenty years, and still have many on maintenance going well, the keypad is obsolete, but the new key pad can be used ,hope this is of help to anyone reading, regards, charles maguire, greengairs technical services

It takes a 4aH 12volt sealed lead acid battery. These are available from most electrical wholesalers.

The 9800 will take up to a 7.0Ah battery. The battery has spade connections. have a look at http://www.diy-alarms.co.uk/catalog/index.php?cPath=124

The battery type is a clip on connection and is very easy to change. You will have to pull off the tripswitch from the panel (the alarm may sound).unclip the battery and replace

MAKE SURE YOU TURN OFF THE MAINS POWER SUPPLY BEFORE YOU OPEN IT.
