how do I remove a rear brake drum on a ford transit?

cant get the brake drum off a ford transit
scott, March 2007
I just did my rear brakes. This is a 2010 U.S model front wheel drive 2.0 engine. After giving up on all the standard methods. I disconnected the wheel sensor-removed the four bolts securing the axel stub- removed the drum and axel stub as one unit- I have a press so that's what I used. I can't believe the amount of pressure it took to separate them. Some well place blows with a heavy hammer may get it done.

Knock out one of the wheel studs, line the stud hole up with the auto adjuster & work it backwards, it can be very fiddly as you have to hold the rachet off the adjuster whilst turning it. Its a good idea to cut away the lip that forms on the drum before re-fitting it.

wheel off, handbrake off (chock the front wheels), large mallet (5 lb hammer works for me) hit all round the face of the drum first to loosen from hub then gently around the edge should just fall off. Other than that slacken off the handbrake cable 1st (middle above the propshaft 2 x 13mm spanners)

Give me a clue what year and model we are talking about here!
