How can I troubleshoot & repair my icemaker?

My ice maker was leaking. The freezer is still functioning (the temperature appears to be Ok) but it will not produce ice. How do I go about finding the parts needed & aquiring those parts for repair? This is on a GE side by side - Model TFX20JR

I have an amana side by side purchased in 1997 new. My wife left the freezer side open to clean it for probably 15 minutes. My wife left the refrigerator open for 1 hour or so. All the time it was running. Now, the freezer does not freeze properly. Items are still frozen somewhat, but the ice maker has stopped producing ice cubes. Ice cream will not stay frozen. Meats are still staying solid for some reason. You get the idea. About 8 months ago I changed the defrost timer because the freezer was frosting up to the point it wasn't working. It worked great after i changed out the defroster. The refrigerator is cold, but the freezer is not cold enough. So what do you think it is?

On Bob Vila's web site there is a diagram for a water valve that connects the water tubing to the cold water pipe. It contains a solenoid that regulates water flow. His web site tells you how to check to see if it is bad.

I bought out of date parts at Sears Parts Store (separate from regular Sears Sales like at the mall) and was able to repair a broken switch on a 1997 gas dryer. The Sears Parts store I went to was in Arizona (not sure of the actual city but it could have been Mesa, Gilbert or Chandler since they're all so close). Sears site wants you to call: 1-800-4-MY-HOME

I went directly into Sears in Mesa at Power Road and they sent me to their parts store which was roughly five miles west. Good luck.

Take a look at this website. This is a 'class-action' suit brought against GE by GE refrigerator owners who reside of Florida. I have a GE refrigerator, model TFX20JRXAWH, that I Have never had anything but problems with. I finally had to take it out of use. I can assure you, my next refrigerator will NOT be made by GE.
