how do I check motor is good after timing belt has broke?

I have recently fitted a gates new timing belt with new tensioner. I rotated the engine five times and it seemed adequately free to turn. Now after just 2 weeks of driving less then 1000ks it has broke. Can you tell me please how can i check the engine is ok? As I am wondering if I should chance a new belt or just put a new engine in it?

Hi,

You did'nt state what type of vehicle it is,
but basically there are 2 types of engine
an interference and a non-interference

interferencr type mean that if the belt snaps the pistons will crash into the valves resulting in quite a very expensive strip-down and rebuild,
a non interference leaves enough clearence between the pistons and the engine top-end so that if the belt breaks it should'nt cause too much damage.
best thing would be to contact a main dealer for your type of vehicle and ask one of their mechainics/service technicians
they will be able to tell yopu strait away.
interference-new engine
non interference-affordable repairs.

hope this helps
