Hotpoint DWF70 shows error AL99?

Wondering if I made a dud purchase or not, there seam to be many negative reports about this model.

I installed the brand new machine today and after a few minutes it showed error AL99, and hasn't worked since. I didn't even get one wash out of it! Don't suppose anyone knows what the cause is? I've drained the small amount of water from inside, but the error didn't change.

Lots of hitting and slamming the door turning off and it worked! It'll probably need replacing at some point but for now it works.

I have an Ariston Dishwasher and have been dealing with this problem (AL 99) for about a year now. I have tried pushing every button imaginable and any button sequence but nothing has worked. UNTIL I tried hitting it quite hard where the screen is and VOILA instant success . The error disappeared immediately which means it is more than likely that D Stephens is correct about it being a communication error between the processor board and display.

This happens to me all the time. I've had this machine for four years now and it went backwards and forwards between the technicians' workshop and my home (during the first two years of the guarantee period, anyway) and they've replaced the display and the processor board God knows how many times. This fixes it for about a fortnight and then the dreaded AL 99 message returns. I keep the machine running by opening the door, pressing the power button to get rid of the AL 99 message, slam the door shut again (not so hard as to break all the dishes inside!!) and touch the power button again to see if it has disappeared. If not, I repeat the process again and again until it works. Then I choose the programme and press the start button quickly before it changes its mind. Once the machine is running, it doesn't matter whether the AL99 reappears or not, as the programme will continue until the end.

I recently bought a "returned" DWF70. First thing that came on the screen was AL99. Manual was a photocopy and some pages are missing, so your site provided me with the answer "communication error". Being a Sunday I couldn't contact any service centres, so I employed the "Dr Who" method of repair - I hit it. So it's now running through it's first cycle!

A hard slap to the front of the door next to the control panel may just be enough to get all the bits communicating again. It's worth a try. Worked for me.

I have an Ariston LD 87 and after 1 year of usage the machine started show the same Error ("AL99"). Anyway I still work perfectly. I've contacted Portuguese Customer Support and I’m waiting for the answer.

In case this helps anyone else, AL99 is a communication error between processor board and display. Engineer replaced main board and cable, and so far the machine is working...
