Peugeot 306 nreg Can anybody identify this wire,at base of gearstick?

Whilst cleaning underneath , base of gearstick, I have found an unattached wire. It is yellow in colour, fixed on the other end is a small round switch , the size of a penny with 0/1 which I assume is off and on. Would anybody know what this controls? Also my central locking seems to have a mind of its own. One day it will lock , the next day it wont . Any ideas

It's most probably associated with the handbrake indicator switch. When you turn the ignition key to the second position, check that all three RED lights located in the centre of the dash are illuminated. (Handbrake/Battery & Oil symbols) The battery & oil indicators go out when the engine is started and running. The h/brake should then go out when the h/brake released. If the wire has become detached, my guess is that the h/brake indicator light is either permanently ON. Identify where this yellow wire was originally connected and reconnect. The h/brake indicator should then change from 'ON' to 'OFF' when the h/brake is released. Don't think this relates to your central locking problem . . sorry can't help with that one.
