I have not got a S video lead from the laptop bus is there a way either to use the lcd out plug to a s video lead or to attach my own s video to the laptop circuit board using wires and solder.

I have a acer travelmate 2300

I'd use a scan converter connected to the VGA monitor connector.

or try ebay for a cheaper alternative. You may even be able to get one for free from www.freecycle.org a site where you can give things away that you no longer need
