there is no thermostat as such in ghd, what they use is a potentiometer (sounds technical) this does not give many problems, this only overheats or does not heat enough, if ghd is not working at all, problem is likely to be, faulty cable, faulty microtemp ( goes faulty by overheating) or wires at inside of heating plate breaking off. cable can be repaired sometimes, £15, if new cable £30, if new microtemp £28, plates are a different story, ghd does not sell spares, and the only way you can replace plates is 2nd hand off old ghd, cable and microtemps are not 2nd hand, we can source them elsewhere,only problem we are in scotland,feel free to e-mail jonsemple@talktalk.net
