How can I fix a HP IIIP printer that indicates error code 52?

My printer has stopped printing and indicates error code 52, which according to the manual is due to a scanner malfunction and a service is needed. Can I do this myself and how?

Hi Stu,
thanks for your rapid answer. I have dismounted the HP and checked and re-connected all cables. It did not cure. I have found the the spare parts on the web and I agree. They are much too expensive for an old printer!

Hi,
More than likely the scanner assembly needs replacing, otherwise it's the dc controller, bith fairly expensive parts to replace.

If the printer was working fine, remove the covers and check the cable seating from the laser scanner to the dc controller. If the cable is ok, replace the scanner. If that doesn't cure it replace the DC controller. As I said these are both fairly expensive parts so unless you can get second user I'd be more tempted to spend the money on a more up to date printer. It won't cost more to replace it than repair it!
