Engine management fault & not starting Vauxhall Zafira 1.8L 2000?

I noticed the engine management light come on this morning and immediatley stopped. The car would not idle and was chugging. The car will now not start and tick over. The engine management light stays on continually now. It has recently had a service and the oil is still clean and to the correct levels, the collant is not discoloured and there are now other obvious signs of breakdown. Any ideas what this may be all suggestions welcome.

I have since had it checked and was told the air idle valve was faulty which is part of the throttle body cost of new part £250. Since found out the part was not faulty but the ECU was faulty a further cost of £751 + £180 diagnostic checks from local Vauxhall dealer. Will never buy another Vauhall Zafira.
