vauxhall astra wiper relay?

my wipers keep stopping half way on intermitant setting but all other setting work, dont know where to find or how to replace relay switch or could it be something else if not relay switch.

Just replaced my wiper motor on my 2008 astra . Once I connected the linkage back up the wipers are going in the opposite direction now! Any ideas?

Has anybody had any problems after repairing the motor with a new piece for the copper electrode ??
I just soldered a piece inside and closed it up with a few extra nuts in place of the drilled holes and its sealed properly. I just am not sure if there is any risk for doing this to the motor, could it cause more problems ??

All of my wiper settings work fine but they only switch off when they feel like it. Staying on and drives me mad.
Any ideas?

I had the same problem; the windshield wipers don't really function on intermittent at all; and never stopped in the correct place- finally the whole assembly stopped working; when I switch it on high I get an aubulbe whiring notices and I can still ear the clicks on mid and intermittent- before forking out on a new motor is this likely to solve the problem or could it be something more?

If the intermittent wipers are stopping in the vertical and not stopping in the proper position, then it's 100% to be a worn copper contact inside the motor gearing mechanism. There are 2 sprung copper contacts inside the gearbox section of the wiper motor housing. You'll need to remove the motor and replace it completely, or take it apart and repair it. If you have a drill, some flux and some solder, and are fairly adept at mechanical DIY jobs, then it's quite simple to do. What you'll find is one of the copper plate springs has worn down too far, and you will need to re-shape a new piece and solder it on. When done, put it all back together with either some new rivets of some nuts and bolts. This is an extremely common problem with these Astra G wiper motors.

my vauxhall astra 1.7dti estate 52 reg, wipers have packed in altogether now keeps blowing fuse.

In most fails on the astra wipers in intermittent it's the wiper motor return contacts that have burned out nothing wrong with the relay.

I have this problem with the intermitant wiper thing with my astra, i read this then start fiddling with the relays now the blinking wipers have stoped working all together!!!

vauxhall astra 1.6 2000 petrol manual estate, wiper fuse 30 amp standard fuse in drop down comp just below steering wheel, turn 4 plastic screws to gain access,if wipers are stopping in middle of screen etc then its very unlikely to be the fuse, either relay,if not then wiper ball joint or motor problem.

my 2006 vauxhall sagnum wipers only work at high speed only its not the relay so could it be the motor?

aled, November 2010
had astra with wiper problem, and it was the wiper mechanism had come away on the cradle / ball joint . scrappy £10.

jeff allan, October 2010
The wiper relay is located in the fuse box behind the pulldown storage compartment down to the right of the steering wheel, turn the 4 screw heads to remove then pull down the fuse box the wiper relay is the black 1 with GM on it or its the top right 1 in the block of 4.hope this helps..

It's not the relay it's a broken contact in the motor just repaired one on my car took just a hour from start to finish.

I have just repaired an astra wiper with the same problem. It is caused by a worn contact inside the wiper motor gearbox. Open the gearbox by drilling out the rivets (these can be replaced by self tappers) The worn contact will be obvious. I repaired it by brazing a new tip on but soldering a bit of copper on wiht a new tip may do the dame job.

Have fun!

lulah, I have exactly the same problem. Was it the relay?

Don, October 2008
Hi,
I'm not sure about the location of the relay but on a lot of cars it's down near the fuse panel. I owned an Astra and had problems with the intermitant wipe. I finally found that the motor slip rings had one broken. These are springy contacts that rest on the rotating plate in the wiper motor. Unless you know someone who can carry out a bit of mechanical surgery the best option is to get one from a scrappy. Cheaper than a new one. Also check the fuses for the wipers. You should have the wiper fuse and an intermitant supply fuse.
Cheers now
