Mondeo rear door c/locking problem?

Mondeo rear door c/locking problem. Just bought a 1988 'S' reg. Mondeo SLX Auto 2 litre with 19,000 miles on the clock. The only thing not working is the central locking on both rear doors but doors can be locked with inner handles. Tailgate and front doors work ok. Anyone any ideas? Haynes manual no good.

Hi Phil. No answer I'm afraid, except to say that I had the same problem on the nearside rear door (T Reg Modeo LX, owned from new). Spent £80 to replace the lock unit 2 years ago, then, about 6 months ago the offside rear door developed the same problem. I bought a replacement lock from a scrapper for £18. This cured the problem until 2 months ago when the nearside one, now 2 years old, stopped working. As this is a relatively new unit I am now thinking the problem might be in the switching unit, wherever this might be located. Perhaps it can't supply enough current to drive both motors.
As you say, the Haynes manual is no use but someone out there might know where this switching unit is.
Incidentally I stripped down the motor removed 2 years ago. It is rivetted together and probably impossible to reassemble - you need 3 hands, or more! The internal components are connected electrically by pressure connections, i.e. not spade connectors or soldered etc, just one metal component in spring contact with another. After I had disturbed the connections the motor started working again. Nothing was burned out, but, as I say, it was impossible to reassemble it. You may be a better or more patient mechanic than I am!
Good luck
