TIMING MARKS FOR A ROVER 214 16V?

i cant seem to get the crank shaft pulley off so do u know wot othe way i can tell if its on tdc and wot pistons should be up ?

set the crank sprocket mark(2 dots) at 12oclock position in line with the line on the block. set both cam sprockets so the words exhaust and in are in line and up the right way and the timing marks are aligned at the 3 an 9 oclock position. there is a locking tool available for about £5. This holds the sprockets in place and ensures correct timing.
