Get printer to move carrage so I can refit cartridges?

Epson stylus color 480 printer After fitting new black & color cartrides the black was unable to work now the message is UNKNOWN FAULT on print the paper is blank and the printer will not let me move to refit cartridges or do anything else Like clean jets etc.

I had similar problem with both my Lexmark printers Z11 & X1180 printer/scanner. I re-installed both printers and it worked.
