how do I get petrol out of my water system?

10 L of petrol was accidentally put in our 240 L water tank on our power boat, and run through the lines, taps and hot water system. How do we get it out so that fresh water out of the taps no longer smells of petrol? The problem persists despite lots of flushing including with detergent.

you might think about putting oil absorbent in a sock, tyong it off and and sticking it into the inlet for the tank. also gasoline evaporates so you might want to open up every foucet and outlet and stick a hose hooked up to an air compressor and blow it out until all fumes dissapate. adding charcoal may also help absorb the odor. again use it in a sealed porous container that you can remove..

all you can do is keep flushing my friend or replace the tank and remember that the petrol floats on top of any water you put inthe tank so you'll only be able to get it out from a low by letting all the water out as you won't have a high point over fill the tank and get it out that way.
